Thank you for visiting my website.
I am a psychiatrist with Board Certification in General Psychiatry as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
I am available to provide a broad range of psychiatric consultation and treatments for adults, adolescents, children, and families.
I offer: |
- Evaluation of your emotional and medical-psychiatric needs - These evaluations are often
conducted collaboratively, in partnership with a psychologist, neuropsychologist, and at times a
neurologist.
-
A full treatment repertoire consisting of psychologically and medically informed psychiatric treatment - Treatment, usually, but not always, includes psychotherapy. The structure and type of this psychotherapy is carefully chosen to meet your needs. It is always results-oriented and focused on the problems for which you came to treatment. It may also involve medication or other biologically based interventions.
- Bi-weekly consultation groups for psychotherapists and allied professionals - Continuing education (CE) credits are available to psychologists, social workers, or MFTs who participate.
- Individual or group consultation to therapists and educators experiencing impasses.
Please refer to the Services page for a more complete list.
Any or all of the above services may be included in the comprehensive approach to evaluation and treatment I call: The Collaborative Psychiatry Procedure (click here for detailed information about this process). Most of my work is organized in this way, since it is encompassing and most likely to yield the results we are seeking. This approach, which was developed with colleagues at the Center for Collaborative Psychology and Psychiatry, is designed to parallel the rigor of the diagnostic and treatment process in medicine. It ideally includes a battery of selected neuropsychological and psychological personality tests, meetings with others who are central to you or your child's life such as family members and teachers, and needed consultations with specialists in areas such as education and medicine.
This comprehensive evaluation is carried out collaboratively between us as we work hand-in-hand toward a full understanding and solution to the difficulties you or your child are experiencing. While the evaluation itself begins an exploration of these problems, it also serves as the start of a goal-directed treatment. Treatment is thoughtfully and collaboratively planned, and, whenever possible, time-limited. As required, I will make referrals, as needed, to a selected list of professionals, including psychotherapists, educators, and practitioners from other professional disciplines.
To learn more about this diagnostic and treatment process, please refer to How I Work.
It is important to note that at first the assessment and treatment described here may be more expensive than their counterparts in conventional psychiatry and psychology, since they tend to include psychological or neuropsychological testing and may involve consultations with others. However, over time the costs are typically less, and often considerably less, with this approach since it is likely to be distinctly more accurate and efficient. The collaborative model I use and the
protocols for making a diagnosis and monitoring treatment
are described in my four published books. It is most fully elaborated in my current book, Evidence from Within: A
Paradigm for Clinical Practice.
